About Made in Maryport

Made in Maryport is a High Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme developed and being delivered by the Maryport Arts & Heritage Partnership.

Designed to celebrate the past, present, and future of the town, the ‘Made in Maryport’ Cultural Programme aims to engage the local community in town centre based cultural events, activities and projects that will bring life and vitality to Maryport, focused on bringing the town’s distinctive heritage to life. The Cultural Consortium will develop and deliver an extensive programme of activities through new and existing partnerships, increasing capacity, developing new working practices, and encouraging new audiences to experience the unique and compelling stories, talents and experiences Maryport has to offer.

How will we do it?

Local artists and professionals will be commissioned to produce creative outputs that tell the stories of the people and create new experiences and memories, helping to change the narrative of Maryport and improve perceptions of the high street as a more attractive, engaging, and vibrant place to be.

The intended outcomes of the Cultural Programme are:

  • A wider range of people will be involved in Maryport’s heritage assets and cultural offer
  • Local cultural organisations and creatives will have increased capacity and be more resilient
  • Heritage will be identified and better explained including new and improved ways to help
  • people make sense of their own histories
  • Local people will report that they feel it makes the area a better place to live, work or visit
  • The local economy will be boosted by an increase in visitors to the high street
